Seven in Seventeen
I know we are a good twenty-nine days into the New Year but
life has been nothing short of a Lifetime movie lately so let’s just say,
better late than never.
As one year closes and another begins, I am not one for
resolutions; rather, I try to reflect on the past year and make some sense of
it – lessons learned, accomplishments made, obstacles overcome, obstacles still
pending, friends made, friends lost, etc.
So, here it goes…
Seven Things I Learned in 2017:
7. Donald Trump is, indeed, as dumb as he looks. That’s a
book you can judge by the cover.
6. Teachers deserve more respect, more autonomy, and
waaaaaay more money.
…because, y’all, my wine habit is getting expensive.
5. Accomplishments rooted in arrogance are not
accomplishments at all. (sit on that for a while)
4. Running a marathon never gets easier, but the feeling of
crossing the finish line and hanging up another metal never grows old. I
completed my sixth full marathon this past year and logged over 600 miles of
running for the year 2017. My legs were tired. My knees were sore. My heart is
full. …and I’m ready for another. Any takers?
3. Some people are simply not worth your time. Period. End
of story. Let those “trolls” go.
2. Aluminum foil does not belong in the microwave. Thanks,
Tingle.
1. Sometimes in life, the best thing we can do is to take
heed of Elizabeth Taylor’s advice...
“Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together.”
